So, I’ve been looking for an alternative to 1Password and I’ve tried a number of them. I also don’t need to have my vault saved on 1Password’s servers when Dropbox has worked just fine for me for years. Regarding 1Password specifically, most of the features included in the subscription version versus the standalone version are features I don’t need: 1 GB document storage (my 1Password vault is only 4.3 megabytes), 365 day item history to restore deleted passwords (I’ve never had to find a deleted password), Travel Mode to safely cross borders (not sure what this means but I’m sure I don’t need it) and password sharing (something else I’ve never needed). Subscriptions add up, and unless the software is adding new features every month, I think subscriptions are a rip off. But the next version, version 8, is subscription-only and I dislike paying subscriptions for software. I’ve used the standalone version the whole time and it’s met all my needs. I’ve been using 1Password for Mac for over 12 years. Myself I dropped Evernote for Apple Notes and never looked back. If we want to keep independent developers alive we must accept that they-just like the rest of us-can't work for free.Īnd there is a good side to subscriptions: It can make you think about if you really need those apps or if you can drop them. ![]() Which also means that you have a better chance of there actually will BE a new version. Difference is you pay per month instead of when a new version comes out. It's no big difference from paying an update cost for a new version. The old version you can still use but it will not be updated in the future. But that is in fact the way it is for most apps that go to subscription. And if you don't really need all the extra bells and whistles that 1Password (and Dashlane and the rest) has, and you don't want to run Chromium on your computer then this is where mSecure can get new customers.Īs for the subscriptions: I too had that view before. Regardless if it is subscription or mot is costs less. So THAT is what makes me think mSecure has a niche in the password manager universe. 1Password will only allow their own cloud solution. So as I see it, what mSecure has that 1Password in the future will lack is the possibility to save locally on your computer, and the possibility to use iCloud or Dropbox. I can't really say what the status of msecure 6 is, since I haven't received any answer to my question to re-join the beta program. And to be honest it has come a long way from the first version of the v 8 beta. I am now also beta testing v 8 of 1Password. I have a license of v 5, and earlier beta tested v6. ![]() As for a re-written app: that will also be the way the new v 6 of mSecure works, right? And also v6 will be subscription. ![]() Tamil to English, Bengali to French) are usually more useful to a non-native speaker. Spoiler Alert: Mickey ends up defeating Pete in this one as well. The Mail Pilot Big Little Book was adapted from the comic strip version, which was adapted from the short. Since they had a significantly smaller amount of width in which to work, images had to be cropped. This of course altered the scene’s scope, however thanks to clever positioning, they made it work. Another space-saving technique saw the dialogue shifting from dialogue bubbles in the comic strip to having text on the left page and images on the right page in the Big Little Books. We were then shown the “entertainment scene” from the beloved film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This is the scene in which they all danced, and some sang, in the dwarfs’ cottage. The scene in the film ran roughly seven minutes in length. When artists had to draw that scene for the comics, it had been adapted to fit in one panel! When it came time for the Big Little Book version, more changes followed. Some of the art from the comics appeared to have been traced, only flipped horizontally. ![]() Another relatively large modification made was, Dopey spoke! “Let’s dance” was one of his lines from the entertainment scene. When the dwarfs first discover someone (or something) is in their room, and Dopey is elected to investigate, he verbalizes his findings. What would the Snow White story be without the Queen? Officially referred to as “The Evil Queen” by Disney, she was actually given a name for the printed stories, like the comics and the Big Little Book. Queen Grimhilde was her name, and she was just as menacing in print. In the Big Little Book, she kidnapped the prince and locked him in the dungeon. Another variation came after the Huntsman returned from his mission and advised the Queen that Snow White was dead. ![]() Draw routes between these stations to connect them with subway lines. “Love it! If it feels like technology buyers in these spaces move slowly and resist change, the reason is that the critical institutions they oversee are often built on heavy, legacy systems that contain a lot of technical debt. The belief that vertical software buyers either aren’t as smart or are unmotivated stems from a complete misunderstanding of the challenges they face. The most frequent objection to vertical SaaS is simply that the TAM is too small to produce a venture-scale outcome. These are the most common objections I see: Objection 1: Vertical = small So why the aversion from some investors? My observation is that three wild mischaracterizations drive money away from vertical software, and it’s time that we collectively change our thinking and recognize the opportunity within some of the largest industries in the world. Segment-specific startups frequently outperform their horizontal counterparts and do so with greater efficiency, lower churn, and simpler GTM motions. Many of the largest public software companies operate in vertical segments, and yet, I’ve encountered countless investors who - in their undying quest for a piece of the next Slack or Uber - treat massive industries like healthcare or logistics like they’re too small for investment. Time and time again in my career in venture, I’ve been surprised at the negative attitude I’ve encountered from VCs at the thought of investing in vertical SaaS. |
